The launch of the DIMITRIE CANTEMIR Project - Romanian sound of the Orient - in Constanta

"Dimitrie Cantemir - Romanian sound of the Orient" Project was held, consisting of a photo-documentary exhibition Dimitrie Cantemir and concert of the "Anton Pann" Early Music Chamber Ensemble.

At the opening of the event, over 150 people visited the photo-documentary exhibition with images from documents and artifacts from the period of Dimitrie Cantemir's life, more precisely from the 17th-18th centuries, organized by the National Archives of Romania, in partnership with the Romanian Academy, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the National Museum of Romanian Literature, which was presented by Mrs. Codruța Mihailovici - the curator of the "Dimitrie Cantemir - Romanian sound of the Orient" .

The exhibition includes reproductions of the main Cantemirian works, literary writings, including musical manuscripts, map reproductions, stamps and validation marks (seals) covering both the period of Prince Cantemir's stay in Istanbul, the years of his reign on the Moldavian throne, as well as the period of refuge in Russia .

In the second part of the event, the "Anton Pann" Early Music Chamber Ensemble fascinated the audience with 7 musical compositions, which are known with certainty to have been created by Dimitrie Cantemir. The compositions are taken from his work "Book of the Science of Music according to the shape of the letters" and are sonically contextualized with the help of the musician-researchers from the "Anton Pann" Ensemble and guest musicians from Turkey, Greece and Lebanon.

The uniqueness of the show was given by the use of period-specific instruments and interpretation, along with the video projection of Prince Dimitrie Cantemir, who "personally" presented his musical creations.

"Dimitrie Cantemir - Romanian sound of the Orient" project will continue in Alba Iulia, on November 6, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., in the premises of the Puppet Theater "PRICHINDEL".
